View Lely Milk Day Production
Question: What is Lely milk day production and how can I view it in DC305?
Answer: Lely milk day production is an adjusted total milk yield value calculated by the Lely Horizon system. It factors in milking visit dates, times, and animal physiological factors to provide a more refined daily milk production figure for each cow. This value differs from the raw milk weight totals traditionally displayed in DC305.
To allow producers to monitor this specific Lely-calculated performance metric, DC305 now imports and stores Lely milk day production values. Once your DC305 is updated to the relevant build and configured for the Lely milk interface, this feature will automatically appear on the Lacations tab of CowCards; no additional end-user action is required except to create the additional Lely milk items.

For dairy producers utilizing both Lely Horizon and DC305, maintaining consistent and accurate cow performance data is crucial. Previously, farmers often observed discrepancies between the adjusted milk day production values displayed in Lely Horizon and the raw total milk weights recorded in DC305. This feature bridges this gap and provides a more comprehensive view of individual animal performance.

Lely adjusted milk weight data is updated throughout the day and is viewed from the Lactations tab on the CowCard:
- The row for Lely milk data is labeled Lely and is located below the Total row. If you hover over the word Lely, a tool-tip pops up revealing that it's for Lely adjusted milk weight.
- One DC305 item, called LELY1, will be created during the next milking session import into DC305. LELY1 corresponds to the Today column on the tab (i.e., the current day).
- In this example, a full 7 days of Lely data is shown. You'll need to create additional items (LELY2, LELY3, etc.) to monitor a full 7-day history of Lely milk production data.

While DC305 supports storing up to 7 days of Lely milk day production values, additional items for previous days (e.g., LELY2, LELY3, etc., up to LELY8) must be manually created to display this historical data.
Follow the steps below to continue:
-
In the command line, enter ALTER\2 to display the Item Definitions window.
-
Select Add [Ins] to add a new item to DC305.
-
In the window that displays, enter the following properties for each new item:
Item Name Item Type Value (Milking Day) Value (Milking No.) Description LELY2 120 7 16 2nd Lely Adjusted Milk Weight LELY3 120 6 16 3rd Lely Adjusted Milk Weight LELY4 120 5 16 4th Lely Adjusted Milk Weight LELY5 120 4 16 5th Lely Adjusted Milk Weight LELY6 120 3 16 6th Lely Adjusted Milk Weight LELY7 120 2 16 7th Lely Adjusted Milk Weight LELY8 120 1 16 8th Lely Adjusted Milk Weight -
Click OK to save the newly created item.

Once you have created your Lely milk day production items, you can use them in reports and lists. Below are some example commands you can run to create useful reports.
Summary of daily milk
This report shows averages of daily milk production by milking pens:
SUM DMLK1 LELY1 MDEV DIM WMDEV WMLK1 BY PEN FOR MPENS>0 DMLK1>0\F
Testday production summary
This report shows averages of test day production by milking pens:
SUM DMLK1 LELY1 WMLK1 PCTF RELV 305ME DIM LACT FOR MPENS>0 BY PEN
Fresh cow list
This report examines fresh cows during their first 60 days of milking. In this case, you would look for drops in milk production between the recent days to identify potential problem cows for further review. You would also look for cows with a significant jump in milk production (e.g., 10 pounds):
LIST PEN ID LACT:1 DIM LHEVT LHREM DMLK3:5 DMLK2:5 DMLK1:5 LELY1 MKDAT:5 BFDAT:5 FOR DIM=1-60
